Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded on October 17, 1926. This is the largest museum of the Murmansk region, where you can learn about the history of the region from ancient times to the present day, learn about the nature, geography and geology of our region.
Now our historic building in the center of Murmansk is under reconstruction, our exposition is located at the address: Murmansk, Pavlova Street, 1A. Our exposition tells about the nature of the Murmansk region, the history of the region from ancient times, the life and culture of the indigenous peoples of the Sami and Pomors. A large exposition is dedicated to the events of World War II in the Murmansk region.
The museum's funds contain over 170,000 museum items. Every year the museum organizes over 100 exhibitions, many of them imported from major museums in Russia and neighboring countries.
Our museum is located not only in Murmansk, there are 2 branches of the museum - the Museum of the history of the Kola Sami in the village of Lovozero and the Museum of the history of the Pomors in the village of Umba. Their exhibitions tell about the life of the indigenous peoples of the north.
